Valentine’s Day has never been important to me.
I think it was much more fun as a little girl. Taking in valentines, swapping them with my classmates, and strongly believing that if I received the candy heart that said “Be Mine” from the cute boy than he really liked me. I mean of course he strategically gave me that particular piece of candy.
With that being said, we do celebrate just on a low key level.
This year I thought it would be fun to have an outdoor movie, accompanied with a cocktail and charcuterie and cheese board. Choosing the cocktail was tough because my husband primarily drinks Cîroc on the rocks. As I was brainstorming I remembered my bonus mom telling me about this super tasty martini she recently drank at the Matsu Lodge in Wasilla, Alaska. It’s their signature drink called the Cottonwood Cosmo derived from the Black Cottonwood tree which is the largest broadleaf tree in the lower coastal region of Alaska.
Living in Arizona, we’re able to enjoy the outdoor weather during the winter months. I thought we’d have a drink from one of the greatest outdoor locations on earth. My home state!
Easy, minimal ingredients, and good. That’s my criteria for a cocktail or any recipe for that matter. Make it for yourself and tell me what you think!!
- ½ cup Vodka (good quality)
- ¼ cup Triple Sec
- 1/3 cup White Grape Juice
- Squeeze of Lime
- Slice of lime for garnish
- Maraschino cherry
Mix all the ingredients, except the cherry, in a martini shaker. Shake hard! Strain mixture into a martini glass, long or short stemmed and place a cherry in the glass to serve. Movie, food, and drink = the perfect Valentines day.
Now… you have to try Bethany’s cranberry mimosa. Grab your coffee, or wine, because you’ll want to stay there a while. xoxo
